Packaging Environmental Labeling

The legislative decree of the 3rd of September 2020, n. 116, which transposes EU directive 2018/851 on waste, and directive (EU) 2018/852 on packaging and packaging waste, provides that all packaging (primary, secondary and tertiary) producers must indicate, for the purposes of identification and classification of the packaging, the nature of the packaging materials used, on the basis of Commission Decision 97/129/EC.

On the 21st of November 2022 has been published the Ministerial Decree n. 360 of the 28th of September 2022, which adopts the Guidelines on environmental labeling for the correct fulfillment of the packaging labeling obligations by the responsible subjects.

In compliance with the principles of the free circulation of goods, the Guidelines underline the possibility of adopting digital channels that can completely replace or integrate the mandatory information shown directly on the packaging.
