Asbestos Remediation
“Replacement” and “over-roofing” (or “confinement“) are the most widespread asbestos reclamation techniques: for both, Isolpack roofing – corrugated metal sheets and pre-insulated panels – can be used which, in addition to solving the asbestos problem, guarantee excellent performance.
While the deadly effects of asbestos have been known since the beginning of the last century, it was only in the 1990s that the first community directives regarding removal obligations were issued. Even today, however, there are many buildings that use asbestos sheets as roofing, but in recent years various reclamation techniques and extensive knowledge of all the related problems have been developed.
Isolpack provides the best products available on the market to solve the asbestos problem. To choose the best reclamation technique to adopt, it is important to evaluate a series of variables: from the state of conservation of the roof to the financial commitment willing to face, from the implementation times to the performance characteristics of each type of solution. The experience acquired over many years of activity, with the relative complex series of interventions, has made Isolpack the most reliable interlocutor for choosing the suitable solution for your roofing.
In fact, if encapsulation, through the application of fixing products, is a temporary remediation solution that can only be used in some cases, “over-covering” and “replacement” are the most widespread remediation techniques.
Remediation through “over-roofing” (or confinement) consists of covering the old asbestos sheet with corrugated elements in aluminium alloy or steel that adapt perfectly to the existing covering. These elements are fixed using self-drilling screws to wooden purlins. It is a technique that is recommended by Isolpack when the roof is in good condition, and when the underlying structures can support an additional load due to the new covering. There are many advantages of this solution: first of all the possibility of maintaining the old covering, but also the limitation of the production of toxic-harmful waste and the longer duration compared to the encapsulation intervention alone. However, over-covering is not a definitive intervention and can only offer guarantees of protection for a limited number of years.
However, replacement is the only definitive intervention among those required by law. This reclamation technique consists of replacing the roofing with materials that do not contain asbestos, such as pre-insulated panels. By carrying out this type of intervention, all the potential of pre-insulated panels is exploited, obtaining high thermal insulation, extreme ease of assembly and structural lightness.
For Isolpack this is the ideal solution and recommends it in particular when the roof is in a poor state of conservation. Although more expensive than the others in economic terms, replacement offers the greatest advantages and is the only definitive remediation solution. The benefit deriving from the thermal insulation given by the pre-insulated panel also allows for considerable economic savings over time for the heating and cooling costs of the building.
